As the 2024 Flux congress approaches, the Flux Trainee Committee is excited to introduce you to some of your conference peers via our trainee research profiles. If you are a trainee (student, post-bacc, postdoc) and would like to be featured, please fill out our interest form.

At Flux, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of researchers who are shaping the future of developmental cognitive neuroscience. In our new Trainee Spotlight series, we will highlight the achievements, aspirations, and contributions of outstanding trainees within our community. These young scientists are not only pushing the boundaries of research but also embodying the spirit of collaboration and innovation that drives our field forward.

Today, we are excited to introduce Salma Zreik. Let's dive into their journey, insights, and what motivates them to make a lasting impact in developmental cognitive neuroscience.

What is the focus of your research?
Our lab focuses on studying brain network organization, mostly using precision functional mapping. We are interested in how these networks change across development and what neural differences are present between individuals.

What is your most interesting research finding so far?
I am currently coordinating a study investigating a first-line behavioral therapy for Tourette Syndrome. We are looking a neural measures before and after therapy, as well as what neural and behavioral characteristic can predict success in treatment. I am very excited to see the results this study will yield.

What do you enjoy doing when not researching?
I like doing ceramics, painting, and hanging out with my cat.

Best piece of advice you have received as a trainee:
Ask questions! As soon as I stopped being afraid to ask questions, I got so many more learning opportunities. We are not expected to know everything!

Do you have any advice for early-stage trainees?
If you don't know what you are interested in, the best way to find out is by getting hands-on experience if you are able to. By diving in and trying different things, you'll quickly discover what excites you (or doesn't!).

Where can people learn more about your work at flux?
