Trainee lunch

Do you want to get to know fellow students and early career researchers? Join our trainee lunch gathering on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 12:00 pm! The lunch will take place at the Lebanese Taverna, just a short 2-minute walk from the conference venue. We hope to see you there!

Mentor/mentee match

The Flux Mentor/Mentee Program aims to connect mentors and mentees across the scientific community. Mentees will be matched with mentors in a more advanced career stage for guidance and advice on topics including navigating academia, professional development, grant funding, and shared scientific interests. Matches will be done across career levels (undergraduates/research associates, graduate students, postdoc, faculty), and all are welcome to apply as both mentors and mentees. To become a mentor/mentee, please indicate your willingness to participate by filling out this Google Form.

Mentees will be matched with mentors in a more advanced career stage to provide mentees with valuable insights, guidance, and advice on topics including navigating academia, professional development skills, grant funding, and shared scientific interests. Registration closes on August 31st, and mentor-mentee matches will be announced by September 13th. Feel free to reach out to fluxmentormentee@gmail.com for any questions.

Flux Trainee Communications

As Flux grows, we are looking to increase engagement and exposure of our trainee members, as well as provide direction to valuable resources offered by other initiatives. We hope that our projects will open potential collaborations and bolster a feeling of community for trainees at Flux. We are currently planning “trainee spotlights” that will highlight trainees and their accomplishments in our newsletter and social media. We invite you to nominate/self-nominate trainees (undergraduate, graduate, or postdoc) for upcoming trainee spotlights by filling out our Google Form.

Grant Writing Panel

The grant writing pane initiative aims to foster experience sharing among Flux members and trainees, facilitating healthy, open conversations on the topic of grant applications. Our goal is to provide valuable insights into the process of writing a grant application, creating a space to better prepare and support trainees in navigating the grant writing process.

Career Perspectives Panel

The career perspectives panel initiative aims to foster open conversations among Flux members and trainees about possible career trajectories and experiences post-academic study. Our goal is to empower trainees at any career stage to prepare for "what's next" by discussing common choices and struggles that researchers face and normalizing the ups and downs of research careers.

If you are attending Flux 2024 and interested in sharing your expertise in grant writing or career perspective with Flux trainees, please fill out this form by June 28th: https://tinyurl.com/4wwuya9u. Scientists from underrepresented backgrounds (e.g., geographical location, race, ethnicity) are strongly encouraged to apply.
