Name of Lab: Teen Experiences, Emotions, & Neurodevelopment (TEEN) Lab

Name of supervisor: PI: Amanda Guyer

Closing Date: December 31, 2024

Dr. Amanda Guyer, Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Mind and Brain (CMB) and Director of the Teen Experiences, Emotions, & Neurodevelopment (TEEN) lab at UC Davis (UCD), seeks to hire up to two full-time postdoctoral scholars (initial hire 2 years, dependent on performance) to work on a NIMH-funded R01 project using the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) dataset to investigate sex and pubertal influences on key brain networks involved in the development of psychosis and related symptoms. This project leverages cross-sectional and longitudinal task-based and resting state functional MRI, psychosocial, sex hormone, and pubertal development data from the ABCD Study to address study aims and related research questions.

The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for carrying out a range of research activities, including data analysis, manuscript preparation, grant writing, oral presentations, project management, and supervision of research trainees. The postdoctoral scholar will work directly with Dr. Guyer and will receive mentorship from the full investigative team including Drs. Johnna Swartz (UCD), Sandra Taylor (UCD), Jeffrey Fine (UCD), Birdie Shirtcliff (U Oregon), and Deanna Barch (Washington U in St Louis), thus also expanding the scholar’s network by working with a multi-site, interdisciplinary team.

The position also includes opportunities to participate in developmental science, biostatistics, and/or clinical science activities at UC Davis in relevant departments as consistent with the candidate’s training goals. As part of postdoctoral training, the scholar will be supported in submission of their own independent grant proposals, including NIH research supplements to promote diversity in health-related research if eligible (US permanent residency or citizenship required for federal applications).

Applicants must have a PhD in psychology, human development, developmental neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, computational neuroscience, or related field prior to the start date and a strong interest in neurodevelopmental models of psychopathology. Experience in functional neuroimaging data analysis using standard software packages (e.g., AFNI, MATLAB, SPM, FSL, Freesurfer, HCP pipeline tools) is required. Strong computational skills and/or expertise in programming in bash/shell, python, and/or related languages is strongly preferred but not required.

Start date is flexible, with earliest start date in April 2024. The positions are intended to be in person. Applicants seeking hybrid/remote positions are also encouraged to apply. Travel to scientific research meetings, conferences, and trainings will be supported.

Salary is in line with NIH NRSA postdoctoral stipends and will be decided based on the candidate’s career stage. UC postdoctoral salary scale can be found here: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2023-24/oct-2023-acad-salary-scales/t23.pdf. UC Davis offers full benefits including health, vision, dental, short- & long-term disability, and retirement contribution options.

Interested applicants should email their cover letter, CV, sample of written work (e.g., published journal article, dissertation chapter) and contact information for three professional references directly to Dr. Amanda Guyer (aeguyer@ucdavis.edu). Professional references will not be contacted until a formal interview is scheduled.
