Description:

The Developmental Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, in the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine at USC, led by Dr. Elizabeth Sowell, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow beginning as soon as possible (start date flexible). We investigate brain and behavior relationships in children and adolescents to identify the genetic and/or environmental impacts (i.e., present or past) on the child’s developing brain as they grow into adulthood. The lab uses behavioral, survey, biomarkers and neuroimaging approaches to address our research questions.

We are looking to hire an accomplished and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong publication record and computational and image analysis skills, with a focus on multi-modal neuroimaging. This position is to work on two NIH-funded studies: 1) The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study - a 10-year longitudinal collaborative 21-site study following over 10,000 children aged 9-10 into early adulthood. Integrating structural and functional brain imaging with neuropsychological, psychometric, physiological, and behavioral assessments, the ABCD study aims to identify the factors that enhance or disrupt a young person’s life trajectory. 2) The Prenatal Alcohol in SIDS and Stillbirth (PASS) study, a collaborative study with the University of Cape Town (South Africa) to study brain and behavior development in South African children prenatally exposed to alcohol. Responsibilities across both projects will include data collection, data analysis, conference presentations, manuscript preparation and publication, participation in regularly scheduled in-person and/or virtual meetings with study staff, grant writing/revision, and other tasks as assigned by the PI and higher-level staff (e.g., training/mentoring students, IRB proposals/renewals).
