Janet F. Werker, Supervisor

https://infantstudies.psych.ubc.ca

I have an opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to help lead two lines of infant research – one focusing on the perceptual foundations of speech and language development in monolingual and bilingual learning infants, and the other on the role of dyadic interaction on perceptual and language development. We are at a jumping off point for new studies, so questions and designs will be developed collaboratively with the postdoctoral fellow. In addition to being part of a dynamic lab - the Infant Studies Centre, you will also be part of our larger Early Development Research Group in the Department of Psychology, and the UBC wide Language Sciences Global Research Excellence institute.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have received a PhD in developmental psychology, developmental cognitive neuroscience, audiology and speech sciences, experimental linguistics, and/or a related discipline. They will have a strong interest in language development, and will bring expertise in EEG, signal processing and statistical analysis, as well as excellent critical thinking and writing skills.  Strong interpersonal skills for working with the public and other members of the Centre are essential. Leadership and/or lab management experience is a plus. While prior experience with infants and/or young children is an asset, it is not required.

Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. An open and diverse community fosters the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented or discouraged. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds enumerated under the B.C. Human Rights Code, including sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, racialization, disability, political belief, religion, marital or family status, age, and/or status as a First Nation, Metis, Inuit, or Indigenous person.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.

Salary will be commensurate with experience, but will range from $50,000 - $65,000/annum plus a full benefit package. This position is open for a possible start date as early as March 1, 2023. A 2-year commitment is preferred. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
