The University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Psychological Science, Developmental Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor. Our active and collegial department includes Ph.D. programs in Developmental, Social, Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical, Language and Cognition, I/O, and Ecological Psychology, as well as several areas of inter-program collaboration including Systems Neuroscience and Diversity Science. The successful candidate will utilize and be affiliated with the UConn Brain Imaging Research Center (https://birc.uconn.edu). They also will have opportunities for affiliation with the university’s interdisciplinary institutes [e.g., Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP); Connecticut Institute for Brain and Cognitive Sciences (IBACS); Center for the Study of Culture, Health, and Human Development (CHHD); Africana Studies; Asian and Asian American Studies Institute; El Instituto; Human Rights Institute].
The successful candidate will have a specialization in social developmental neuroscience using MRI methods. Targeted research areas are diversity (e.g., intergroup relations, social justice, disparity/inequity, racial/ethnic identity development) and/or social relationships with parents or peers in childhood or adolescence.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through extramural funding, high-quality publications, impact as measured through citations, and national recognition such as honorific awards. The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, innovative courses and instruction methods, and mentoring of students in research, outreach, and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through research, teaching, and/or public engagement the commitment to, and support of, diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

- A Ph.D. in psychology or related field by appointment start date
- Expertise in social developmental neuroscience using MRI methods
- Demonstrated record of (or potential for) scholarly productivity
- Record of (or potential for) obtaining extramural research funding
- Commitment to excellence and inclusivity in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
- Ability to contribute to the diversity of the department through research, teaching, and/or public engagement
- Research specialization in diversity and/or social relationships in childhood or adolescence
- Able to contribute to one or more of the department’s growing interdisciplinary emphases in systems neuroscience, diversity science, relationships and organizations, and translational health science
- Able to teach courses in introductory psychology, developmental psychology, and/or research methods
- Teaching experience that includes non-traditional, first-generation, and/or historically underrepresented student populations
This appointment is for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
