Position Title: Qualitative Researcher
Description:
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct qualitative research (including field observation and interviews) with people who have dementia and their caregivers; and will analyze these data to prepare manuscripts and presentations for national and international meetings. This work will be embedded within a broad research program on ethical issues in neuroscience, within the UCSF Bioethics program (also directed by Dr. Chiong), and within the UCSF Medical Cultures Lab.
Compensation will be based on the UCSF Postdoc Salary Scale, potentially adjusted upward for equity (for Fall 2025, Level 0 on scale is $69,073).
Required qualifications:
- Doctoral degree or equivalent in behavioral or social sciences (including anthropology, sociology, and science studies), bioethics, or related fields (including philosophy, law, health policy, nursing, social work, neuroscience, and psychology).
- Demonstrated success in independent ethnographic research.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with clinical populations.
- Prior interest/experience in neuroscience, dementia, and/or aging.
- Interest in team science and transdisciplinary collaboration.
- Two-year commitment (with opportunities to extend as mutually desired)
